Creation is at the heart of this instruction. Students will learn to work with various tools, processes, and media. They will learn to coordinate their hands and minds in explorations of the visual world and learn to make choices that enhance communication of their ideas. Their natural inquisitiveness will be promoted, and they will learn the value of perseverance.
- Through a series of exercises students will learn the fundamentals of drawing based on the perceptual skills of seeing and drawing edges, spaces and relationships, and the perception of lights and shadows.
- As they progress students will develop skills of observation. At the same time, they will grow in their ability to describe, interpret, evaluate, and respond to work in the visual arts.
- Students will work in different media (e.g. oil pastel, pen & ink, acrylics, etc.), learning the qualities and characteristic of each media, techniques and processes to enhance communication of their experiences and ideas.
All of our art classes follow the National Art Standards and will allow a student to build a portfolio of works that can be used in future development.
